ANGRY BANKER

TALKING ABOUT UNETHICAL. CHECK THIS OUT...I CALL TO HAVE MY WIFE ACCOUNT MERGED WITH MINE, WE GOT MARRIED. WELL I FIND OUT THAT THEY BEEN CHARGING A HOLD STATEMENT FEE FOR FOR 5 MONTHS NOW. WHEN THEY TRANSFER THE ACCOUNT OVER TO MINE THEY SOMEHOW UPDATED THE ADDRESS TO OUR HOME ADDRESS, INSTEAD OF THE PO BOX...... SO ONE OF THE STATEMENTS GOT RETURNED AND SO THEY PUT THIS HOLD STATEMENT FEE FOR 4 MONTHS NOW...HERE IS THE KICKER, I SWITCHED TO E-STATEMENT BACK IN JANUARY AND THEY WASN'T EVEN SUPPOSED TO SEND A STATEMENT BY MAIL. THIS IS SO UNETHICAL.... IS THERE ANY CONTROL OVER THE BANKS ANYMORE. SO THEY CHARGE BOTH ACCOUNTS 5 DOLLARS A MONTH. THEY CALL YOU EVERY 5 MINUTES FOR A PROMOTION OR WHEN YOU AT THE BANK THE TELLER TRY TO SELL YOU SOMETHING, BUT THEY FAIL TO MENTION A 5 DOLLAR HOLD FEE WHEN YOUR AT THE BANK DEPOSITING MONEY. IT TAKES 2 SECONDS TO SAY , I NOTICE WE HAVE THE WRONG ADDRESS, YOU ARE BEING CHARGED 5 DOLLARS A MONTH FEE WOULD YOU LIKE TO UPDATED IT. RELATIONSHIP PEOPLE HUH!!!!! IF THERE ARE ANY LAWYERS OUT THERE THAT WANTS TO TAKE THIS BANK ON, YOU COULD FIND PLENTY OF ISSUES...ANOTHER THING IS CHARGING YOU A FEE FOR CASHING A CHECK FOR A PERSON WHOS NOT A CUSTOMER OF THE BANK EVEN THOUGH THE CHECK OWNER HAS AN ACCOUNT THERE.. THEY STATE IF YOUR NOT A CUSTOMER, THEN YOU HAVE TO PAY A FEE...AND OTHER NON-SENSE LIKE IF AMSCOTT CAN DO IT , WHY CAN'T WE...... I DONT KNOW WHY THEY LET BANKS GET AWAY WITH THIS. IF A PERSON OPENS AN ACCOUNT AND PAYS BY CHECK TO ITS DEBITORS, THE BANK HAS TO MAKE GOOD ON THE FACE VALUE OF THAT CHECK, REGULATED BY THE FED. IF THEY ALLOW OTHER BANK TO CASH IT FOR FACE VALUE, BUT NOT A PERSON WHO JUST WALK IN OFF THE STREET. IN MY EYES THAT DISCRIMINATION....END OF STORY. SO IF YOU DON'T HAVE ENOUGH MONEY TO HAVE A ACCOUNT OR ENOUGH MONEY BUT NO ENOUGH WILL THE BANKS WILL TAKE HALF OF IT IN FEES OR JUST PLAN DON'T TRUST BANKS. YOU WILL HAVE TO PAY A FEE TO CASH A CHECK DRAWN BY A PERSON WHO IS A CUSTOMER AT THAT BANK.....THIS IS CRAZY...AND IF SOMEONE DON'T SEE THE DISCRIMINATION IN THIS YOU GOT TO BE CRAZY YOURSELF. WHY DOES THE AMERICAN PEOPLE TAKE THIS!!!!!

They charge a non-customer check cashing fee is because it takes time away from our own customers and it is a SERVICE we provide to you.

WalMart, all other banks and businesses do the EXACT SAME THING.

Take your check to your bank to cash to avoid it and stop whining. or open a free checking account

sure!

So are your own customers being reimbursed for the time that was taken away from them, is that what the money is used for? Hahaha!! Nah, I'm pretty sure that is money in Dowd's pocket!!

Its a ervice and the bank gets paid, and YES....it is income. Same way it is income for everyone else that cash checks.

You dont have to pay it.....just go to your own bank!

The person that replied as not so angry banker to the original Hold statement fee….. "Hey dummy, it took you 5 months to realize they were scamming you out of $5 per month? Who's the idiot here?" Here is a message for you....by responding like this adds no value or input to the discussion at all and shows that you do have any clue what’s going on around you. A child can submit a response the way you did!!!! that's just what you are a child!! so if you have no value to add to the discussion please stay off the message boards. Thanks. Now let me explain what is truly going on here, not just amsouth banks but in many others. Have any of you read the policy and procedure for amsouth/regions. If you read the section of service fees, it’s an open statement which means they can make up what ever fees they want at anytime and they can do this by sending you a letter in the mail saying their policy has changed. When you sign up for an agreement, you expect that the originally agreement will be followed. Example, if you sign up for a gym, and 3 months down the road the company sends you a letter in the mail stating if you do not use the gym at least 4 out of 5 days you will be assessed a 5 dollar fee. Well, if you can only go there 3 days a week you will end up paying this fee. This should not be allowed in any agreement....whether you are buying a car, joining a gym or opening up a bank account. The problem here is not the fee itself, but the lack of regulation on the banks themselves. Regman who is often in on a lot of these conversations, states that this is business....sorry, if your going to operate as a bank in the United States there should be guidelines to protect all people, whether your cashing a check that someone submitted to you for payment or making a deposit. If you operate as a bank, the bank is a public entity and conducts them as so. Just because you’re not a customer of that bank you should be treated any different than a customer of that bank. For goodness sake, define bank... an establishment for the custody, loan, exchange, or issue of money, for the extension of credit, and for facilitating the transmission of funds. No where in this definition does is states that a bank is for profit or non-profit or whether it is a business or even only if you’re a customer of that bank. There is a bill in congress right now being debated about ongoing problems of the increase amount of fees being assessed to account holders of banks. I urge you to write your congressman about this. At the very least, policy and procedures should state the exact fee “the name of the fee" that would be charge to you fall outside of their policy. Also at no time can the original agreement can be change with out a majority of the account holders agreeing to the change. This will solve a majority of the complaints that you see.

Thanks

The hold statement fee can be avoided altogether if you notifty the bank of your new address. However, if the address was correct before and it was changed I would consider it bank error and refund you the fees.

It is true to the point that why did it take such a long time to see these fees? Even without a statement you should have seen the fee listed under online banking. If that is what you use.

Even if you signed up for online statements, you should have started receiving them next statement. You should have noticed you were not getting online statements. Since the customer is responsible for enrolling themselves for that, we at the bank cannot do anything until you let us know.

If I was suppose to receive online statements, I would make sure to know when it starts. If I did not get the first one, I would be making a call to the bank.

On the teller system, processing everyday transactions a teller cannot see your address or whether or not the statement is "held". They would only have access to it if they had to search your personal profile.

Customers should always question the bank the first instant they do not receive a statement of any kind. They are sent out at the exact same time every month. Then we can properly research your account for the problem.

It is also the customer's responsibility to notify any updates to addresses and phone numbers to the bank as soon as they can. It will avoid the fees, and allow us a way to contact you in case there is a problem!

If something bad happened to your account, we need to get in touch with you ASAP. It is important we have up-to-date phone numbers if anything.

To all other customers:

Bank branches do not know you are being charged fees like this until you tell us. We also do not know when you move until you come in and update your information. If that information is not updated, we do not even have a way to contact you to get it updated!

I have been a Regions Bank customer since the 70's when it was the small town "American Bank". While no person or company is perfect in this day and age, I have found Regions to be an exceptional bank with friendly and caring employees, a fine team of financial experts. I give Regions an ATTTTT after being a customer for over 30 years I should know. I am not an employee nor does any one in my family works at Regions. Sound to me like BAD CUSTOMER......not BAD REGIONS!!!!!

Of course it must be bad customer, because every customer is treated exactly the same, Awesome! Yeah Right. Go back to counting your profits from fees retarded regions employee.

I am an employee. I don't get any profit from your fees. I am quite sure I make less money than you do: I came on this website to make my own complaints about Regions.

That being said, it is hard to ignore the number of people who are here to complain about fees and policies that are *always* in the contract.

Back to the original post: they changed your address to the street address because we are unable to change to a PO box only. That is part of federal law made to prevent all sorts of scams. I have, however, never heard of a hold statement fee. Amsouth, perhaps?

So "Not So Angry Banker" you believe that if they can scam you without you noticing ...then somehow they deserve that money? ... and what kind of "customer relationship" philosophy is that? "You'd better keep an eye on us every minute to make sure we aren't robbing you!"

Regions did this to me as well. Even though my address had NOT changed and I still got other marketing material from them at that address, they CLAIM they had a statement come back to them and then automatically started holding my statements. No 2nd try, no phone call and no e-mail. They just couldn't wait to start charging me a fee for saving them the postage and printing costs.

I wasn't to concerned with not receiving the statements becuase I was not moving any money in or out of the account. "It's a bank" I thought, "My money is safe just sitting in there."

Now of course it is obvious what a fool I was for trusting Regions with my money. I have since been told by a manager that (in essence) they are not to be trusted and it is the customers duty to keep a CONSTANT watch on them to make sure they haven't cheated you. Regions philosophy is that if they can take your money and get away with it then they have earned it.

So, for those of you who would say I deserved to get robbed because I did not adopt the attitude of "Regions is not to be trusted for a minute" you are correct.

But think about what that says about Regions. Perhaps their slogan should be - "Regions - You'd Better Keep an Eye On Us!"

The employees at Regions, er Scamsouth, were victims too. We (Regions) actually operated a fairly decent bank prior to the merger. I was led to believe that this was a good thing. I now spend my days being beat up (verbally), and in a constant state of anxiety, not by the customers, whom I do my best to assist under the regime of a bunch of folks who make far more $$ than I and spend their days at "meetings", no doubt coming up with new ways to gouge the customers with fees who do not understand the "pay all" system that the bank operates to generate more fees. I am not posting for sympathy, I know every poster on this site cares not, and if I thought I could find another job at this time, I would. 600,000 people lost their jobs the other day....People, if are getting gouged with fees, go elsewhere, there is no end in sight. I get my pay by direct deposit, which I move as soon as it posts (so not to get stuck paying fees myself, we are not immune) which causes me a lag in using my funds, but at least they are all mine this way.

OMG, I know exactly what you are saying. I can't believe what they do to customers. I worked for Regions for more than 10 years and got to the point that I was embarrassed to admit I worked there due to the lack of customer service. Not because of the branch employees but the way the bank was operated. I left and felt a million pounds had been lifted.

Don't get mad ... get even.
