My son goes to college and works part time .This summer he has been saving some money for when school starts back and has 800.00 in a saving account at amsouth .He gets is statement the other day and they cut 5.00 for a holding fee from his saving account. He has a checking account with them also and he has not ever over drawn it so what is this holding fee about ?

Go to your branch, or your son, and talk with the bank. Most people on here do not have the knowledge you need until you talk to a banker. They will help you, and if a bank error they will refund it. I would.

I had this fee show up 3 times (once a month) when I moved because I had moved and my statement was being sent back to AmSouth. They said it was in the user agreement when i signed up but I can't find that. It is bullcorn that they do this, they do not contact you they just charge you $5 until you figure it out. I am going to file suit. Very unethical.

uhhhhh???

OK. How would amsouth contact you if they are getting your mail returned back? Telephone isn't an option, that probably changed too. It's not like they could send you a letter.

Think about it, you keep mailing someone something taking your time and resources to stuff the envelope, seal it, post mark it, drive it to the post office...and you do this for three months and get the parcel back everytime. Wouldn't you be slightly miffed? Also, where are you going to store these letters you have been getting back. What if you had thousands every day? Thik of the time, resources, and money this costs the bank due to the customers error.

The problem is that folks don't have the focus to tell their bank they moved! Isn't one of most folks top priorities their financial information? How tought is it to tell them you moved so they can YOUR statement to YOU.

uuuhhhhh???

It is illegal when you take money from someones checking account with out thier written agreement, regaudless of services rendered. When that agreement is suspect or considered "Hidden", and or "non-specific" that agreement may not be binding. Expecially when there is no documentation of the exact amount for the "holding" services. I have several accounts with 3 different banks. AM South is the only one that took money from my account with-out trying to contact me. All my contact info except for my address stayed the same, AND I had all mail forwarded. Interesting that AM South would continue to send mail after getting the first statment back. Continue to send, continue to collect.. now that is malicious intent. AMSouth is very bad at costomer service and comunication.

Say What?

Apparently your just bad at keeping track of you own life.... Why would you allow them to debit a fee three times before questioning it? 3 Months!!! You waited 3 months before you realized you didn't get a bank statement? Now, your mad at them because they didn't keep better track of you????? Oh, did you read your "Fee schedule"? You know the list of prices that they gave you when you opened your account, or did you fold it up and put it in your back pocket?

AMSOUTH truly wrong

LOL, you are hillarious. You must work for AMSouth or somthing.... I guess you assume that I was given a fee schedule when I opened my acount in Knoxville Tennessee. And you also assume you know anything about my life or situation. Of course it would be impossible for AMSouth to make a mistake, and surely charging hidden fees is not a part of thier busness practice... makes me laugh just saying that.... You are a mornon if you think for a minute that these fees are not designed to increase profit. unfortunatley they did this in an illegal way. Arbitration or legal action.. hmmmm... $15... hmmm... How rediculous LOL. If you like bending over and taking it from behind from AMSouth, go ahead. Some of us have reasonable greivances backed up by years of contract law. Sorry you love AMSouth, it is by far the worst place to put your money. It is also interesting that they can produce no signature or paperwork of any agreement or FEE SHCEDULE. ooops... AMSOuth did somthing illegal... IMAGINE THAT... LOL

Ding Dong AMSouth is dead!!!

There are several reasons AMSouth is no more. www.boycottamsouth.com is one of hundreds of sites devoted to bashing this awful attempt of banking service. I am so glad AMSouth is dead. Regions might be better.

sorry Charlie

To Prove IT:

Moron? Give me a break man. Until you come into my office and see me conduct business dont you dare judge what I do or do not do for my customers.

That is the problem here. Don't pigeon-hole me with those who are not doing their job. There ARE some of us doing what we can.

Get a life.

Oh... you are in Alabama, that explains a lot!!! If you spent half the time serving your customers as you do on this website you might realize that your employer is THE worst in the business. Sorry if you take all the coments on this site personally, you shouldn't. It is all a product of a smart profit driven business model designed to put the screw to all those that use AmSouth. You are merely a banker being used to facilitate this big screw. I am a software developer so I don't know a lot about banking, but I do have a finance degree and certainly understand the reasons behind AMSouths policies; AND I think we all understand what poor customer service feels like. Sorry you are so missunderstood. Get a life outside of your thankless job. It's not your fault REGMAN. One day you may realize you are fighting a worthless battle everyday. ...pigeon hole... lol... you do have a sense of humor :) thanks for trying, but like I said you have a thankless job.

EX-Customer:

If you notice, the only times I write on this thing are at night. I only come to this site every once in a while, and when I do it is on my own time. I am on here trying to explain and possibly help people on here. This goes to show you do not pay attention to detail, which is why you may have had problems.

I have a finance degree also, and several others. Everything I learned is what is taking place now. I see no differences, so what does your finance degree tell you about the operational procedures of a multi-billion dollar financial corporation?

A degree is great, but until you work in the system and the different procedures you have NO idea how a bank branch or corporation runs.

About the holding fee:

Whenever every account is opened, you are given (and its required by law) a deposit agreement and a disclosure about your accounts and the fees associated for service charges above and beyond your account.

It is the customer's responsibility to update any information on their account. After all, it is their account. Even if you had not recieved statements, if you keep up with your balances you would have noticed three months of fees a lot sooner than three months.

It costs the bank money, manpower and time to send each statement out, which by the way, Regions has 5 million customers. If each had two accounts that is 10 million statements sent each month. However, most customer have on average at least 4 accounts with Regions.

There is nothign the bank can do to contact you. If you move, your telephone number usually changes also. And since each branch does not send out the statements of their customers, we have no way of knowing if one is returned.

How to avoid it? Keep your info updated. Also talk to your banker and explain your case, they may refund those fees if you give us prompt concern about it.

I am a amsouth/regions bank customer and I have had numerous charges like this. Unfortunately they all came at a horrible time in my life, (Brain Tumor, Removed, Chemo and radiation).

Please don't make the assumption that every person who doesnt check their bank statements regularly "needs to take control of their life". That is insulting and rude, and honestly immature.

Luckily, they took off the charges (I hadn't moved) Be kind...life's too short.

Best Regards, D

I had the same problem with my college son. Had about $2000 saved from summer work and needed it for tuition. When he went to close the account it was $100's short and it was the holding fees...aka dormant fees since he had not made a withdrawal (but HAD made deposits) now how dumb is that?? Bottom line after MUCH arguement and many days the fee was refunded. But during that entire time they would not give him his $$ and made him come back in 24 hours after resolution before it could be approved for withdrawal. Go figure
