I own a busines and use Amsouth. Beginning in February they began charging a "Cash Deposit" Fee. For every dollar "Over" $5,000.00 a "MONTH" deposited in cash, they charge me a fee. When I inquired about this fee, they told me it was a charge for the tellers to count the "Cash". I am a small business depositing about $35,000 a month in "Cash". My current fees run about $100 a month...Needless to say I am in the process of changing Banks!!!

It is actually a cash handling fee. It is not a fee charged because a teller has to count the cash. There are other types of accounts that do charge this fee.

Nearly all banks have a cash handling fee now.

I have had a business account since 2001 and havent been charged for deposits over 5000. Just another way to beat the small business owner out of some money.

I hardly doubt it's for the teller counting the money...but banks do have limits on the amount of money theu can keep in a branch...if it gets too high they pay a security company to pick up money...easy way for banks to pay for that is to charge those depositing a lot of cash...I don't bank with regions but I know my bank has several different account each with higher limits for cash...I bet regions has this as well.

I have bank accounts at 3 other Banks and they don't charge this fee. I also am a Small Business owner. I only use Regions now for my payroll. If they want to charge for depositing money into my account then they will see little of my money comming in.
